GoPro Housings for Clear As Mud

Clear As Mud

About This Project

We were approached by Queensland-based startup Clear As Mud, to further develop a custom optical cover for GoPro camera
housings. The cover enables prolonged clear video recording in the harshest of environments, using tear-off visors akin to those used in F1 racing.

Clear As Mud had been able to develop a concept that served a functional purpose using 3D printing (top image), and needed a design partner who could facilitate design for manufacturing in order to bring the product to market maturity and mass production.

Several options for final shape and function were explored and selected. Clip fitment strength on the GoPro housing was simulated via FEA, to make sure the function of the clip “felt right” first time and there would be no need for tooling modifications or re-work.

Tooling for mass production was designed in-house, but built & operated by our production partners overseas.
